Mission Statement
Building literacy skills to empower adults and families to improve lives.
Vision: The cycle of low literacy will be stopped and individuals will have the skills to achieve their full potential.
When individuals the world over learn how to read, write, do basic math and use computers, they are more likely to lift themselves out of poverty, contribute to lower health care costs, and find and keep sustainable employment. It has been widely reported that a mother's level of reading skill is the greatest determinant of her child's future academic success. In Craven, Pamlico, and Jones counties, approximately 19,000 adults read at or below the third grade level.
